Medical Assistance Program Launched in Dongri Adivasi Pada
A comprehensive medical assistance program has been launched in Dongri Adivasi Pada, addressing the critical healthcare needs of tribal families who have limited access to medical services. The program provides regular health check-ups, basic medical supplies, and emergency healthcare support to community members.
The initiative was developed in response to a health assessment conducted by the trust earlier this year, which revealed significant gaps in healthcare access for tribal communities. Many residents had not received medical attention for chronic conditions, and children were suffering from preventable illnesses due to lack of basic healthcare knowledge and resources.
The medical assistance program operates on multiple levels. Weekly health camps are conducted by qualified medical professionals who volunteer their time to serve these communities. These camps provide basic health screenings, treatment for common ailments, and health education sessions for families.
Dr. Priya Sharma, who leads the medical team, noted, "We've seen cases of diabetes and hypertension that have gone untreated for years. Many of these conditions are manageable with proper medication and lifestyle changes, but the communities lacked access to both diagnosis and treatment."
The program also includes a medicine distribution component, where essential medications for chronic conditions are provided free of charge to families who cannot afford them. Additionally, the trust has established a referral system for serious cases that require specialized treatment at hospitals in Vasai and Mumbai.
Health education has been a crucial component of the program. Community health workers, trained by the trust, conduct regular sessions on topics such as hygiene, nutrition, maternal health, and disease prevention. These sessions are conducted in the local tribal language to ensure effective communication.
The program has already shown significant results, with a marked improvement in the overall health status of the community. Child malnutrition rates have decreased, and more families are now aware of the importance of regular health check-ups and preventive care.
