Elderly Support Program Expands to New Villages
We are pleased to announce the expansion of our elderly support program to three new villages in the Vasai region. This expansion will allow us to provide essential care and support to an additional 45 elderly individuals who are living alone or in vulnerable conditions.
The program, which began in 2021, focuses on providing regular health check-ups, medication support, and companionship to elderly individuals who have limited family support. Our volunteers visit these seniors weekly, helping them with household chores, medical appointments, and providing emotional support.
During our recent assessment visits to these new villages, we identified several elderly individuals living in concerning conditions. Many were struggling with basic needs like proper nutrition and healthcare access. Some had not had a proper medical check-up in years despite suffering from chronic conditions like diabetes and hypertension.
"The situation of elderly people in these remote villages is particularly concerning," said Mr. Johnson Cherian, who leads this initiative. "Many have been left behind as younger family members migrate to cities for work. Our goal is to ensure they can age with dignity and proper care."
As part of this expansion, we have also partnered with Dr. Meena Patel from Vasai General Hospital, who will conduct monthly health camps specifically for the elderly in these villages. Additionally, we are establishing a emergency response system where elderly individuals can quickly reach out for help during medical emergencies.
We are grateful to our donors who have made this expansion possible. The program now covers a total of seven villages in the Vasai region, supporting over 100 elderly individuals.
