Educational Support Initiative for Village Children

Our new educational support initiative has begun providing school supplies, uniforms, and after-school tutoring to children from underprivileged families in Vasai villages. The program currently supports 75 children from three villages, with plans to expand to more areas in the coming months.

The initiative addresses several barriers to education that children in these communities face. Many families struggle to afford basic school supplies and uniforms, leading to irregular attendance and eventually dropping out. Additionally, parents often lack the educational background to help their children with studies at home.

Each child in the program receives a comprehensive education kit containing notebooks, textbooks, stationery items, and a school bag. Children also receive two sets of school uniforms, which are essential for regular school attendance. Beyond material support, the program includes after-school tutoring sessions three times a week, conducted by volunteer teachers and college students.

"Education is the most powerful tool we can give these children to break the cycle of poverty," said Mr. Somi P.T., who coordinates this initiative. "Many of these children are first-generation learners in their families, and they need additional support to succeed academically."

The program has already shown promising results, with teachers reporting improved attendance and academic performance among participating students. Parents have also expressed relief at having support for their children's education, which many consider a financial burden despite valuing its importance.

We are particularly focused on ensuring that girl children continue their education, as they are often the first to be pulled out of school when families face financial constraints. The program includes special counseling sessions for parents on the importance of girls' education.

This initiative is made possible through the generous support of individual donors and corporate partners who have adopted specific villages under the program. We welcome additional support to expand this initiative to more villages in the Vasai-Virar region.
