Community Outreach Program in Remote Vasai Villages
Our volunteers conducted a comprehensive community outreach program in remote villages of Vasai, identifying elderly individuals living alone and families in need of support. The week-long initiative covered five villages that have limited access to essential services and government welfare schemes.
The outreach team, led by Ms. Priya Sharma, conducted door-to-door visits to assess the living conditions and needs of residents. They identified 28 elderly individuals living alone without adequate family support, 15 single-parent households struggling to make ends meet, and 35 families with special needs children who lack access to appropriate healthcare and educational resources.
The team also organized community meetings in each village to raise awareness about various government welfare schemes and how to access them. Many residents were unaware of benefits they were eligible for, such as pension schemes for the elderly and educational scholarships for children.
"These remote villages often fall through the cracks of development and welfare programs," noted Ms. Sharma. "Our goal was not just to identify needs but also to connect these communities with existing resources and create sustainable support systems."
Based on the findings, the trust has developed a three-month action plan for each village, focusing on immediate needs while working toward long-term solutions. This includes regular health check-ups for the elderly, educational support for children, and livelihood training for women and youth.
The trust has also established a village coordinator system, where a local resident from each village is trained to serve as a liaison between the community and various support services. This ensures continuous support even between the trust's visits.
We are grateful to the local panchayat leaders for their cooperation and to our volunteers who dedicated their time to this important initiative. The insights gathered will guide our programming in these communities for the coming year.
